Diagnosis

Small brown or blackish insects. Postclypeus flat, overhung posteriorly by transversely striated frons and vertex. Crown declivous, longest against eyes. Male genitalia: pygophore narrowing posteriorly with a pair of long, proximally broad, and distally acute processes arising from base; aedeagus columnar, subapically emarginate; Xth segment usually lacking processes. Female VIIth abdominal sternite helmet-shaped (Evans 1981).

ID Keys

Evans 1981: 115–118
Stevens (1990) suggests that this key doesn't work for M. idyia since the male Xth segment bears a pair of long processes. Evans (1981) has interpreted these processes as being part of the pygophore rather than the anal segment.
