Diagnosis

Carapace elongate, ovate; height 1/2 length. Ventral margin slightly sinuate, dorsal margin arched, with or without prominent cardinal angles. Ventral surface of carapace flattened. Both ends rounded. Valves thin and fragile, surface smooth or very faintly pitted. Inner lamella wide at both ends, narrower in oral region. Large anterior vestibule and generally only slightly smaller posterior vestibule present. Inner margin exhibits "S"-shaped course at anterior, elsewhere position variable. Marginal pore canals numerous, mostly simple, straight and short. Hinge variable.
