Type species:
Delphax notulus Germar, 1830 by monotypy.
Introduction
This is one of the Palaearctic genera created by Fieber (1866) which is probably not truly represented in the Australian fauna. Six Australian species were listed in the genus by Metcalf (1943) and all but one, M. leimonias (Kirkaldy), have been transferred to other genera by subsequent authors. Zimmerman (1948) suggested that M. leimonias should be in Tarophagus Zimmerman but no formal transfer was made. Megamelus was not included in the key to Australian genera provided by Fennah (1965) who also made no mention of M. leimonias.

Since Megamelus is almost certainly irrelevant to the Australian fauna, no diagnosis is provided here.
