Introduction
The validity of Marphysa novaehollandiae appears to be undecided among researchers. Glasby & Hutchings (2010) noted that the species had previously been proposed as a synonym of Marphysa mossambica; the proposal has been supported and disagreed with over the years, with Glasby & Hutchings (2010) suggesting that the lectotype of M. mossambica and holotype of M. novaehollandiae possibly represented populations of a single species. More recent work by Molina-Acevedo & Idris (2021) does not appear to agree with the above synonymy, as the work still recognises M. mossambica and M. novaehollandiae as separate species.
