Order EUNICIDA
Introduction
Rouse & Fauchald (1997), under the name Eunicida, combined Eunicida sensu Fauchald (1977) and Amphinomida sensu Fauchald (1977) on the basis of the two groups having a well-developed ventral pharynx. However, Eunicida sensu stricto, with its complex sclerotised/mineralised jaw apparatus, is presently thought to constitute a monophyletic group (= Eunicidans), and were treated in Beesley et al. (2000) separately from Amphinomidans (Amphinomidae and Euphrosinidae). Two families, Diurodrilidae and Histriobdellidae, were classified by Rouse & Fauchald (1997) as Eunicida incertae sedis and were treated in Beesley et al. (2000) as Eunicidans incertae sedis.
See Paxton (2000) for detailed treatment of the group.
