- Dimitrov, D., Benavides, L.R., Arnedo, M.A., Giribet, G., Griswold, C.E., Scharff, N. & Hormiga, G. 2017. Rounding up the usual suspects: a standard target-gene approach for resolving the interfamilial phylogenetic relationships of ecribellate orb-weaving spiders with a new family-rank classification (Araneae, Araneoidea). Cladistics 33: 221-250
Introduction
Malkarines were originally placed as a subfamily of the Araneidae (Davies 1980), but later were elevated to family level to include the Malkarinae and the Sternoidinae (see Platnick & Forster 1987). They are small, ornate litter-dwelling spiders.
Diagnosis
Malkarids are araneoids that possess deep alveoli on the carapace, the pedicel is entirely sclerotised and the spinnerets encircled by a sclerotised ring.
