Genus Liothrips Uzel, 1895
Type species:
Phloeothrips setinodis Reuter, 1880 by subsequent designation, see Hood, J.D. 1918. New genera and species of Australian Thysanoptera. Memoirs of the Queensland Museum 6: 121-150 [Date published 31/12/1918].
Introduction
Australian species of Liothrips were reviewed by Mound et al. (2023): three new species were added, new records were given for species shared with SE Asia, and the biology and the Australian distribution of Lily Thrips were discussed. In addition they made a number of taxonomic changes and presented an identification key to species known from Australia. Generic relationships were discussed. They also include mention of Liothrips urichi Karny that '… does not occur in Australia; but is included […] because there is a possibility that it may be considered for introduction for the biocontrol of an invasive weed'.
