Diagnosis

Wings clear, hyaline, and may have only an extremely narrow, yellowish stripe along the costa; first posterior cell distinctly closed; 5 submarginal cells always present. Under-side of abdomen covered only with whitish hairs and scales, and apex and sides not dark; usually without dense, black hairs on lateral margins of middle tergites, or at most only a few present. Cross vein r-m before the middle of discal cell; the dark spots (about 9) at the crossing points of the veins are very small and only greyish in colour, poorly developed. Scales on dorsum of abdomen yellowish, on the last 3 tergites nearly white. Black hairs and scales only along the hind margin of first tergite. On the average, this species is smaller than bombyliformis.
