Diagnosis
♀. Head brown, frons and face, particularly the latter, more reddish. Hairs on frons and face black, short but numerous. Style of third antenna1 segment in male as long as basal part of segment, in female only half as long. A narrow, whitish stripe of scales present behind the eyes.
Thorax dark brown. Collar, upper part of mesopleura, and postnotal tubercle above the hind spiracle, with bright orange-yellow, dense hairs. Remainder of pleura with deep black hairs. Mesonotum with black erect, and yellow depressed hairs. Bristles black; humeral calli with black hairs. A short, yellowish, longitudinal stripe above the wings. Scutellum reddish. Halteres brown. Legs carbon black.
Wings with sharply defined, anterobasal, dark brown area, the remainder hyaline, the hyaline part occupying the greater part of the wing. Dark colour occupying basal one-third of axillary cell, basal half of anal cell, entire lower basal cell, basal part (obliquely) of discal cell, and extending past apex of subcostal vein; 4 submarginal cells. First posterior cell open; vein r-m at middle of discal cell; vein M2 nearly straight and parallel to M1 and M3.
Dorsum of abdomen carbon-black, with white markings. First tergite black, with orange hairs laterally. Second tergite carbon-black, with a pure white basal band narrowing towards the median line; third tergite carbon-black, with 2 pure white, round spots laterally; fourth and fifth tergites carbon-black; sixth and seventh tergites also carbon-black, but each with a pair of pure white, rectangular spots laterally.
Venter carbon-black, with 2 square, pure white markings on basal sternites, occupying less than one-third of the width of sternites.
The male is very similar to the female.
