Genus Lepidurus Leach, 1819
- Lepidurus Leach, W.E. 1819. Entomostracés Entomostraca (Crust.). Dictionnaire des Sciences Naturelles 14: 524-543 [524].
Introduction
What is called Lepidurus today, has been recognised under various names in Europe for more than 250 years. Fox (1949) gives an historical account of the naming of this genus; briefly, since Apus is preoccupied, and Linnaeus used Monoculus for at least nine different types of lower crustaceans, a different name was needed and Leach's Lepidurus prevailed.
