Genus Laphria Meigen, 1803
- Laphria Meigen, J.W. 1803. Versuch einer neuen Gattungs-Eintheilung der europäischen zweiflügligen Insekten. Magazin für Insektenkunde (Illiger) 2: 259-281 [270].
Type species:
Asilus gibbosus Linnaeus, 1758 by subsequent designation, see Latreille, P.A. 1810. Considération Générales sur l'Order Naturel des Animaux Composant les Classes des Crustacés, des Arachnides et des Insectes; avec un Tableau Méthodique de leurs Genres Disposés en Familles. Paris : F. Schoell viii 444 pp. [this work is the subject of Opinions 11 and 136, ICZN, and is on the Official List of Works approved as available for Zoological Nomenclature] [443]. - Lapria Meigen, J.W. 1800. Nouvelle classification des mouches à deux ailes (Diptera L.) d'après un plan tout nouveau. Paris : Perronneau pp. 1-40. [This publication suppressed by the I.C.Z.N.] [25] [invalid name; Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature (ICZN 1963: 339 [Opinion 678])].
- Laphria Bezzi, M. 1907. Nomenklatorisches über Dipteren. Wiener Entomologische Zeitung 26: 51-56 [56] [junior synonym of Laphria Meigen, 1803; Bezzi (1907) included this name in a list of Meigen 1800 names as an emendation of Lapria Meigen, 1800. Name made available by indication: bibliographic reference of Lapria to Meigen (1800) (Evenhuis & Pape 2017)].
- Lapria Bezzi, M. 1907. Nomenklatorisches über Dipteren. Wiener Entomologische Zeitung 26: 51-56 [56] [Bezzi (1907: 58) gave a list of genus-group names in Meigen (1800) without indicating their availability. However, by emending Lapria to Laphria, he was essentially proposing Lapria in synonymy with Laphria Bezzi, 1907. Bezzi (1907) did not include any species. Hendel (1908: 55) was the first after Bezzi (1907) to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat Lapria as valid, which makes it available from Bezzi (1907). Hendel (1908: 55) included six nominal species, but did not designate a type species. Coquillett (1910: 557) selected Asilus gibbosus Linnaeus, 1758, which is the type species by subsequent designation. Asilus gibbosus Linnaeus, 1758 is currently treated in Laphria Meigen, 1803, which makes Lapria Bezzi, 1907 a junior synonym of Laphria Meigen, 1803 (Evenhuis & Pape 2017)].
