Genus Kirkaldybrachys Constant, 2006

Compiler and date details

10 November 2010 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

This genus was created for two species from far northern Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Along with species in related genera, they may be associated with broad-phyllodinous wattles (Acacia spp, family Mimosaceae) although there are few host records for Kirkaldybrachys species. The generic name honours George Willis Kirkaldy who made a major early contribution to our knowledge of Australian Auchenorrhyncha.

Diagnosis

Constant (2006) differentiates the genus from all other Australian eurybrachids by the combination of the following features: tegmina and hindwings not convex; frons less than two times broader than long; hind wings brown, without white marking; first fork of forewing vein M close to base; first fork of forewing vein Cu at about half length of forewing. Like species in the genus Olonia, the first hind tarsomere has a bristly pad ventrally.
