Tribe Julodimorphini Kerremans, 1902

Introduction

The placement of the aberrant Julodimorpha bakewelli (White) has been varied since the description of the tribal taxon by Kerremans (1902). The apparently convergent general morphology most similar to the Julodinae convinced past workers of that relationship. Holm (1979) suggested other factors that seemed to indicate descent from the chalcophorine lineage and this was supported by Bellamy (1986). Holynski (1993) placed this tribe between Tyndarini and Buprestini. Earlier, Théry (1929) classified the Julodimorphae as one of two subtribes of Stigmoderini. Placement under Buprestinae is a new concept from Volkovitsh (2001).
