Introduction

This species is rather variable in colour and occurs mainly along the eastern seaboard of mainland Australia from SE Queensland to Victoria and is also known from Perth, Western Australia.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: gregarious, myrmecophilous, phloem feeder (associated flora: Eucalyptus sp. [MYRTACEAE]).

 

Diagnosis

Même forme que les précédentes [Eurymela trifasciata Signoret = Eurymeloides punctata (SIgnoret)] dont elle diffère entièrement pour les couleurs; elle est d'un jaune verdàtre livide, mêlée de nuance peu claire. Elytres d'un jaune verdàtre, avec des macules blanches dont la série supérieure forme une fascie; celles du sommet de l'élytre sont disséminées dans une portion plus brune. Abdomen jaune en dessous, brun en dessus avec les pattes entièrement jaunes, testacées, excepté les tarses qui sont bruns: le premier article des postérieures étant jaune comme dans toutes les espèces de ce genre. Long. 0,006-007. (Signoret 1850).

Rufo-ferrugineus, flavo guttatus; facies piceo bimaculata; scutellum piceum; pectus flavum, disco nigro; abdomen nigrum utrinque ferrugineum, subtus flavum; pedes fulvi, femoribus flavis; alae anticae luridae, albo guttatae; alae posticae cinereae. Reddish-ferruginous, with yellow dots: head extremely short, as broad as the chest, slightly rounded along the fore border, more convex behind; front transversely striated, a little longer on each side than in the middle, where its length is less than one-twelfth of its breadth; a pitchy mark on each side of the face, which is punctured, and another on each side of the epistoma: shield transversely striated; scutcheon finely punctured, mostly pitchy; breast yellow, with a black disk: abdomen black, ferruginous on each side, yellow beneath; legs tawny; thighs yellow; fore-wings lurid, with white marks, which are smallest and most numerous towards the tips: hind-wings gray. Length of the body 3¼ lines; of the wings 7½ lines (Walker 1851, of Bythoscopus luridus).
