Introduction

This medium sized brownish species is distinguished by the male genitalia from other species of the genus. It is only known from the type locality at Normanton, North Queensland. The J.W. Evans collection includes seven specimens (on five mounts) matching the type data and these may be considered to be additional paratypes.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: gregarious, myrmecophilous, phloem feeder (associated flora: Melaleuca sp. [MYRTACEAE]).

 

Diagnosis

General coloration greyish mottled with light brown. Face of head anterior to antennae, pale whitish, posterior to antennae mottled with pale or dark brown. Eyes, as seen from above, extending considerably beyond the sides of the pronotum. Pronotum greyish mottled with a variable pattern of pale or dark brown. Scutellum mottled brown, usually darker than the pronotum. Tegmen vitreous, sometimes with an obscure anterior white fascia; veins brown or white. Male genitalia with broad parameres and subgenital plates. Length ♂ 5–5.6 mm, ♀ 5–6.6 mm. (Evans 1969).
