- Imogine Girard, C. 1853. Descriptions of new nemerteans and planarians from the coast of the Carolinas. Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia 6: 365–367 [367].
Type species:
Imogene oculiferus Girard, 1853 by original designation.
Introduction
Marcus & Marcus (1968) propose to allocate the species currently treated under Stylochus in two subgenera on the base of their seminal vescicles, a nominate one and Imogine Girard,1853 for the other, as its type species I. oculifera Girard falls in this group. Among the Australian taxa, only S. vigilax Laidlaw in the nominate subgenus, and S. orientalis Bock in the subgenus Imogine are mentioned.
Jennings & Newman (1996) re-elevate Imogine to genus level.
A review of Imogine is presented by Maghsoudlou & Momtazi (2014). This review combines diagnostic features of all known species of Imogine across the Atlantic and Indo-West Pacific. Species of Imogine are important threats to aquaculture (especially of oysters).
