Family HAPLOCHTHONIIDAE Van der Hammen, 1959
- Haplochthoniidae Hammen, L. van der 1959. Berlese's primitive oribatid mites. Zoologische Verhandelingen (Leiden) 40: 1-93.
Introduction
The Haplochthoniidae is a small family, with three genera and 15 species world-wide (Schatz et al. 2011). Their feeding behaviour is unknown (Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009). The family is known from Australia on the basis of one identified species of Amnemochthonius and several records of unidentified species of Haplochthonius, all from soil and litter in semi-arid habitats (Kinnear 1991; Noble et al. 1996; Colloff & Halliday 1998; Norton & Kinnear 1999; Adolphson & Kinnear 2008).
