Introduction
Gyliotrachela australis was first described from the Chillagoe limestones in northeastern Queensland. Subsequently Solem (1981) described three related species from isolated limestone outcrops in the Northern Territory and the Kimberley, Western Australia. Pokryszko (1996) in a revision of the Australian Gastrocoptinae, considered that all these species were only ecovariants or subspecies of G. australis.

Diagnosis
Shell tiny, dark brown, trochoid with a prominent peripheral angle and subperipheral sulcus; sculpture of spiral threads and weak axial growth threads; aperture ovate, last whorl trumpet-like and flared, detached from shell and deflected upward to varying degrees; rather delicate to strongly developed parietal and palatal teeth, accessory teeth occasionally present; umbilicus open; height to 2.8mm.
