Type data:
Holotype WAM 71140 ♂ (coll. N. Gunawardene, pitfall trap, viii.2002), Gibson Desert, Western Australia [24°42'36"S 124°46'02"E].
Introduction
This beautifully marked little leafhopper lives in the Western Australian deserts. it has been collected in the Gibson Desert and on Lorna Glen Station in pitfall traps which implies that it lives close to ground level.

Diagnosis
The two species of Gunawardenea can be differentiated by the dark markings on the head as illustrated at http://www1.dpi.nsw.gov.au/keys/leafhop/deltocephalinae/athysanini.htm.
