Diagnosis

Carapace subcircular, quadrate, or quadrangular with lateral margins more or less strongly convergent posteriorly. Front broad, more or less strongly deflexed. Antennal flagellum very short. Pterygostome may be setose but not covered in a network of short hooked setae. Third maxillipeds usually leaving wide rhomboidal gap when closed; no oblique setose ridge running across merus and ischium; exopod slender, with flagellum. Male abdomen completely covering sternum between last pair of legs.
