Holotype MTQ W10695 ♂ (30 November 1979, in dead coral, 20 m, coll. N.L. Bruce), Wistari Reef channel, Heron Island, Qld [23.4520°S, 151.9078°E].
Paratype(s) MTQ various numerous (23 September 1997, both reared from juveniles, symbiotic with the fish Rhinobatos typus (now Glaucostegus typus (Anonymus [Bennett], 1830)), A. Grutter stn. M, coll. A. Grutter), Heron Island, Qld [14°40’S 151°55’E].
