Introduction
Gastrocopta strangei is the only Australian sinistral Gastrocopta sp. It is distinguished from the sympatric Omegapilla australis by its smaller, narrower and tapered shell and more prolific apertural barriers. In spite of its relatively restricted distribution it can be locally abundant. The publication date of this species name is often given as 1852 which is the date on the volume of the zoological society proceedings. However, the actual date of issue was 1854.
