Introduction

This genus of four described species includes the largest eurymelines. They are all brightly marked with aposematic colouring which may be warning that they are attended and protected by ants. Some of the species are restricted to inland drier areas of the continent.

Diagnosis

This genus comprises insects eleven to fourteen millimetres in length, which are brightly coloured, red being the predominant colour. The frons is produced into a transverse spade-shaped process; this process is concave dorsally and hence the eyes from above appear very prominent. The venation of the tegmen is reticulate apically and the hind tibiae have two, occasionally three, spurs (Evans 1933).
