Introduction

This is a distinctive species with its pale yellowish curved stripe along the tegmina. It is quite common in its range. Evans (1966) gave the type locality as "New South Wales" but Walker's original description has Tasmania.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: gregarious, myrmecophilous, phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Nigra, subtus testacea; facies testacea, nigro vittata; prothorax guttis nonnullis maculisque duabus testaceis; abdomen luteum, apice nigrum; coxa et femora lutea; tarsi postici basi testacei; alae anticae vitta costali lutea, fascia subapicali sordide vitrea antice dilatata; posticae nigricante-cinereae. Black, testaceous beneath. Face testaceous, with a black stripe. Prothorax with some testaceous dots, and with a testaceous marginal spot on each side. Abdomen luteous, black at the tip. Coxse and femora luteous; hind tarsi testaceous at the base. Fore wings witli a luteous stripe extending from the base to beyond the middle of the costa, and with a subapical dingy vitreous band dilated in front, and in which the veins are luteous. Hind wings blackish gray. Length of the body 2 lines; of the wings 5 lines. (Walker 1858).
