Introduction
The small species is very common in much of its range. The coloration is quite distinctive with the narrow anterior white fascia on the tegmen curved and oblique in contrast with the distal fascia which is much more transverse.

Ecological Descriptors

Diagnosis
Depressa, nigra, nitida, hemelytris fasciis duabus albis. — Long. 3½ lin. Depressa, nigra, nitida, supra submetallica. Caput punctato-rugulosum, infra tenuiter albo-marginatum, Thorax brevis, transversim strigosus, postice tenuiter albido-marginatus. Scutellum rugulosum, transversim impressum, apice acuminato testaceo, Hemelytra ruguloso-punctata, tenuiter testaceo-marginata, fasciis duabus albidis, altera angulata ante medium, altera subarcuata versus apicem. Pedes basi testacei, postici tibiis medio piceis, tarsis articulo primo basi albo (Erichson 1842).
Head fuscous mottled with straminaceous, the vertex mostly black or head entirely black. Pronotum brown or black with a narrow white posterior margin. Scutellum brown or black. Tegmen, shiny black with two narrow white fasciae, the anterior setretching from the middle of the costa to just anterior to the apex of the scutellum (when the tegmina are folded); the posterior transverse and widest at the costal margin; in addition to the fasciae there may be some small white spots on the tegmina. Legs, coxae, femora and first tarsal joint of hind legs, white, the rest black; hind tibiae with three spurs. Abdomen, ♂ ventral surface black but for the posterior margin of each segment, which is white; ♀ ventral surface white, genital segments black (there is a variety with the abdomen, coxae and femora scarlet). Length 7 mm. (Evans 1933).
