Introduction
Irungbam et al. (2023) revised the taxonomy of Eurema brigitta (Stoll, 1780), which is distributed throughout most of the Old World tropics, including Africa and Madagascar. The authors undertook a phylogeographic study of this species by comparing Afrotropical, Malagasy and Oriental-Australian populations based on COI. They found a deep split between the Afrotropical and Oriental-Australian populations of this taxon, which are separated by the Indian Ocean and dry eremic habitats on the northern coasts. Based on these genetic patterns and known morphological evidence, they transferred the Oriental-Australian populations into a separate species, Eurema drona (Horsfield, 1829), which they reinstated, with the Australian taxa comprising the subspecies E. drona australis Wallace, 1867.
