Introduction
Fletcher (1980) differentiated this species from the only other described species of Euryphantia using features of the male genitaila as well as distribution. E. cinerascens has been recorded as far north as Palm Island, which is slightly south of 18ºS latitude, while E. tristis has only been recorded in far North Queensland from the wet tropics northwards, including Torres Strait islands, as well as from Papua New Guinea. Medler (1986) synonymised Euphanta obscura Jacobi, which is based on a holotype male lacking its abdomen, with E. tristis rather than E. cinerascens on the basis of this distributional difference.
Distribution
States
Queensland
IBRA
Qld: Cape York Peninsula (CYP), Wet Tropics (WT)

Torres Strait Islands terrestrial, marine & freshwater
Ecological Descriptors
All stages: phloem feeder.
Diagnosis
Pygofer, anal segment and subgenital plates similar to those of E. cinerascens. Aedeagus similar to that of E. cinerascens except for the following points: second pair of processes, from apex of dorsal edge, long, reaching to level of third pair which curve antero-dorsally rather than dorsally; first pair slightly sinuate towards apex; fourth pair lacking clubbed posterior projection from near base (Fletcher 1980).
