Tribe Eucarpiini Emeljanov, 2002

Compiler and date details

27 August 2010 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

Eucarpiini is one of eight cixiine tribes recorded from Australia and was created by Emeljanov (2002) to accommodate ten genera from the Palaearctic, Ethiopian, Oriental, Australian and Oceanic Regions (Holzinger et al. 2002). Fennah (1980) reassessed the status of several genera of the Eucarpia group and defined them as a complex of seven relatively weak genera for which he also provided an identification key. Löcker et.al. (2010) revised the Australian fauna, recognising five genera with 12 species.

Diagnosis

Diagnostic features are based on the on-line key below: Frons with median carina unforked; without median ocellus. Pedicel of antenna not longer than twice its diameter. Vertex usually separated from frons with single transverse carina, if with two carinae, then vertex markedly narrowing towards prominent apex (Genus Nesochlamys only). Pronotum not expanded laterally or, if expanded, then not inflated. Mesonotum with 3 longitudinal carinae. Forewing with tubercles only along veins, with subcostal and radial veins (and sometimes also the medial vein) united at base to form a distinct stem. Hind tibia usually with 5-6 apical teeth. Second hind tarsomere with 3 or fewer platellae or very fine setae.
