Introduction

This species is only known from the type locality and is based on four male specimens. It was presumably named after Dr Max Whitten who collected all four specimens.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

General coloration pale brown. Face of head, maxillary plates, genae and antennal ledges, pale yellowish brown; remainder of face dark yellowish brown. Postclypeus transversely ridged, frontal region punctate, ocelli facing forwards, neither facial nor on crown. Crown of head between eyes of even length throughout, pale mottled brown. Pronotum slightly declivous anteriorly, sometimes with four obscure longitudinal pale stripes margined with brown. Tegmen vitreous, veins dark brown with raised spots. Length ♂ 4 mm, ♀ 5.2 mm; greatest width ♂, ♀ 1.8 mm (Evans 1969).

The species was redescribed and illustrated by Stevens (1990).
