- Elleguna Gray, M.R. & Smith, H.M. 2008. A new subfamily of spiders with grate-shaped tapeta from Australia and Papua New Guinea (Araneae: Stiphidiidae: Borralinae). Records of the Australian Museum 60: 13-44 [35-36].
Type species:
Elleguna major Gray & Smith, 2008 by original designation.
Introduction
The genus Elleguna comprises two species that are described from the Eungella district near Proserpine in mid-eastern Queensland. This genus is part of the subfamily Borralinae Gray & Smith, 2008. Members of most genera in the subfamily, including Elleguna, have a longitudinally striped carapace which in males is usually distinctly highest at the fovea. Males of Elleguna species have a putative stridulatory mechanism between the palpal femur and lateral chelicerae, also found in Karriella Gray & Smith, 2008. They are forest-dwelling spiders that make a fine cribellate sheet web. The catching web is guyed out from a funnel-like retreat, typically in a rotten log, under bark or moss or into a steep bank. The spiders run on the underside of the sheet.
