Introduction

This species is not common in collections and is distributed around the SE corner of mainland Australia from Mittagong in the Sydney basin of New South Wales to southern Victoria. The type locality was given by Evans (1966) as "Stoughton Vale" but this was a misspelling of Staughton Vale, in the western area of Melbourne.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: gregarious, myrmecophilous, phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

General coloration black, with delicate white markings on the tegmen. Face rugose, black, the outer margins of the lora and the ante- and frontoclypeus, in part, coffee brown. Pronotum and scutellum shining black but for the pronotum anterolaterally and the scutellum posteriorly brown. Tegmen shining black; veins 1A and 2A apically white. An oblique, narrow, sinuate fascia extending from the apex of the scutellum to the costal margin. Distal of the costal apex of this fascia, a series of small, round, hyaline white spots lying between R and the costal margin. Further distally, an arcuate broken narrow hyaline white fascia. Abdomen, ventral surface and legs brown. The subgenital plates are broad and laterally flattened (Evans 1966).

Evans (1966) provided figures of the male genitalia.
