Type species:
Tartessus iphis Kirkaldy, 1907 by original designation.
Introduction
This monotypic genus has similarities to species of Austrotartessus F. Evans and a case could be made to synonymise these two genera as the differences in the male genitalia, on which they were separated, are probably not sufficient to justify two genera. The only species is found in coastal areas of North Queensland.

Diagnosis
Small orange-brown or black insects. Male genitalia: pygophore apically hooked; aedeagus curved with a long, narrow, posterior process; parameres S-shaped. Xth segment with a pair of curved processes arising from, or from near, the base (Evans 1981).
