Family DOLICHOCYBIDAE Mahunka, 1970
Introduction
The family Dolichocybidae includes about 25 species world-wide (Walter et al. 2009). They are minute mites found in soil and litter, under bark, and in the nests of various types of insects, on which they are phoretic. They appear to be funigvorous and not parasitic (Kaliszewski et al. 1995). A few species may be pests of cultivated mushrooms. The Australian Dolichocybidae are poorly known, with only a single unidentified species, as reported from soil by Noble et al. (1996) and Longstaff et al. (1999).
