Diagnosis

In lateral view valves elongate-ovate, highest in middle or just behind it. Both ends rounded, anterior end more narrowly rounded than posterior end. Dorsal margin convex. Valves evenly arched, moderately inflated. Valves smooth, thin and fragile. Inner lamella wide throughout, narrowest in oral region. Marginal zone narrow throughout. Inner margin irregular in some species. Marginal pore canals few, widely spaced, short and simple. Hinge merodont/lophodont. Normal pores few, scattered.
