Genus Cunaxa Von Heyden, 1826

Introduction

Hermann (1804) described the genus Scirus, with type species Scirus setirostris Hermann, 1804. Von Heyden (1826) then described the genus Cunaxa, with type species Scirus setirostris Hermann, 1804. Cunaxa is therefore a junior objective synonym of Scirus, but Cunaxa is in widespread international usage, and that usage is preserved here in the interests of stability (for example, Den Heyer & Sergeyenko, 2009). Den Heyer (1979) reviewed the nomenclatural history of these names in detail.

In addition to the named species listed here, unidentified species of Cunaxa have been reported from Australia by Waite & Gerson (1995), Noble et al. (1996), Walter (1999), Kinnear & Tongway (2004) and Adolphson & Kinear (2008).
