Introduction
From Edwards (in Nielsen et al. 1996): Boisduval (1832) used the multiple original spellings 'donowani' in the text and 'donovani' in the Index. With the name 'donowani', Boisduval provided the explanation in French 'of Donowan'. The Code Art. 32 (b)(i) states that the action of the first reviser is to be followed in the case of multiple original spellings. The first reviser (that is the first author to mention both spellings) in this case was Jordan (1912) who chose 'donowani'. However, Art. 32 (b)(i) is subject to Art. 32 (c)(ii) which states that if there is evidence in the publication itself of an inadvertent error a name may be corrected. Nye (1975: 142) used the name 'donovani' on the assumption that it was named after Edward Donovan. While this is probable, even obvious, there is in the original publication no proof of it and hence the action of Jordan (1912) as first reviser in choosing 'donowani' is followed here. Boisduval in referring to Donovan's publications consistently used the abbreviation "Donow."
