Melbourne : CSIRO Australia xiii 510 pp. [Date published 30 May 1995] (on the basis that Coscinasterias muricata Verrill possesses a carinal row of alternating four-lobed and elliptical skeletal plates along each arm, it was raised from the synonymy of Coscinasterias calamaria (Gray, 1840, as Asterias), which shares with Stolasterias tenuispinus (Lamarck, 1816), type species of Stolasterias Sladen, 1889), a carinal row comprising only four-lobed plates. Gray's (1840) species, Asterias calamaria, is herein transferred to the genus Stolasterias Sladen, 1889, which is raised from subgeneric rank within the genus Coscinasterias to generic rank on the basis of the same skeletal character—see also Stolasterias calamaria (Gray))
