Genus Copidapha Enderlein, 1922

Introduction

Medium to rather large (9–16 mm) plump species, with moderately diverging frons and long slender proboscis with small labella. This genus is endemic to Australia and New Guinea, although the species were once considered to be part of the genus Pseudoscione which is now limited to South American species (Lessard et al. 2013; Lessard 2014). A key to 32 species known from Australia was provided by Lessard & Mackerras (2012), and eleven species known from New Guinea provided by Mackerras (1964).

Some species are nectar feeding, visiting flowers of Leptospermum and Eucalyptus, as well as exhibiting blood-feeding (Mackerras 1960; Lessard & Yeates 2012; Lessard 2014).
