Ecological Descriptors

Benthic, epiphytic.

Extra Ecological Information

Commensal on brown alga Scaberia agardhii.

 

Diagnosis

Distinguished from other species in the genus by its bright red or orange colour and its specific host plant, the brown alga Scaberia agardhii Greville.

 

Notes

Species epithet derived from the generic name of its host alga, Scaberia, in recognition of the specific association between the two species; the Latin scabar (rough, scabby, or mangy) describes both the ctenophore and its host.
