Diagnosis
Poulsen (1962) divided the genus into 2 informal groups: the goniacantha- and cruenta-group. The only species found in Australian waters belong to the latter group. The following diagnosis refers to that group.
Mandibula with total of 6 claws and bristles on end segment. Maxilla: exopod with 2 plumose bristles; 1st endopodal segment with 2 bristles; 2nd endopodal segment with spines on a-bristles, and with total of 7 b- and c-bristles. 5th leg: 2nd exopodal segment with 5 or 6 a-bristles, and with total of 5 or 6 b'- and b"-bristles; outer branch of 3rd exopodal segment with 1 bristle much longer than other.
