Systematics

Studers' type material originated from Kerguelen and the subsequent Australian records are questionable. Whitlegge expressed doubt over his own identification of samples from Sydney Harbour, and Thomson and Rennet's description of material from Macquarie Island referred to the presence of "interlocked spindles so that large pieces [of the calyx] can separated off intact", which are charteristics not mentioned by Studer. Thomson and Rennet's material could possibly be Rhodelinda gardineri Gohar, which has been shown to be common, in some regions at least, of Macquarie Ridge.
