Introduction

This neatly speckled species is uncommon in collections. It has been collected on the native wild lime, Citrus glauca (Lindl.) Burkill (Rutaceae) in SE Queensland and named in honour of S.E. Flanders who worked on pest management of citrus in California and who collected the holotype.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: gregarious, myrmecophilous, phloem feeder (associated flora: Citrus glauca (Lindl.) Burkill [RUTACEAE] Desert Kumquat).

 

Diagnosis

Frons, crown and vertex mottled with yellow, the rest of the head is similarly coloured but the black areas are less dense; eyes black. Pronotum and scutellum yellowish grey mottled with black. Tegmen hyaline, densely mottled with dull brown; an anterior opaque somewhat rounded fascia, surrounded by an opaque black area. Thorax and abdomen ventral surface black. Legs blackish brown with white spots. Male parameres long and narrow, aedeagus simple. Length 5 mm; head width 2.3 mm (Evans 1934).
