Introduction
This species is widespread in the warmer parts of the Old World. In Australia it is restricted to the Northern Territory and northern parts of Western Australia. It is the vector of a number of plant diseases, including leaf gall of rice and maize (Grylls 1979). The species has frequently been mentioned in the literature as Cicadulina bipunctella (Matsumura).

All stages: phloem feeder.
Diagnosis
This species is smaller than C. bimaculata but is most easily distinguished by the simpler pygofer appendage which has only two or three points, rather than four as in C. bimaculata.
