Introduction
Carcharhinus coatesi has been only recently regarded as a distinct species (see White 2012) and has long been known under the name Carcharhinus dussumieri in Australia. In 2003, Carcharhinus dussumieri was placed on the IUCN Red List as Near Threatened, but it will need to be re-evaluated given the separation of C. coatesi as a distinct species.
