Genus Carbinea Davies, 1999
- Carbinea Davies, V.T. 1999. Carbinea, a new spider genus from north Queensland, Australia (Araneae, Amaurobioidea, Kababininae). Journal of Arachnology 27: 25-36 [26].
Type species:
Carbinea longiscapa Davies, 1999 by original designation.
Introduction
Spiders in the genus Carbinea are ecribellate, unlike other relatives in subfamily Kababininae (Davies 1999). The genus contains four species from higher altitude rainforests of the wet tropics in northern Queensland. Little is known of the spiders’ biology, except they appear to be litter dwellers. Carbinea was unplaced at the family level by Davies (1999), but was listed in the Amphinectidae until 2008 along with other genera in the Kababininae. The subfamily was transferred to Stiphidiidae by Gray and Smith (2008).
