Introduction

Pante et al. (2013) undertook a molecular analysis of Isisidae genera including Isidoides but were unable to resolve placement of the genus, leaving it in incertae sedis. For the present it is retained here in family Chrysogorgiidae.

Based on molecular phylogenetic reconstructions and examination of type material Cairns et al. (2021) placed Pleurogorgia militaris Nutting, 1908 in the new genus Ramuligorgia Cairns, Cordeiro & Xu 2021. Following the identification of material referred to as Pleurogorgia sp. by Alderslade et. al. (2014) as Aurogorgia tasmaniensis Alderslade, Cairns & Cordeiro, 2021 there are no known records of Ramuligorgia in Australia and we do not currently include it here.
