Bishop Museum Occasional Papers 27: 115-125 [116] (Webb (1983) noted that the locality given on the data label was Cairns, 'N' which differed from Kirkaldy's (1906) original description which was "Nelson" however, as explained by Medler (1987), the red 'N' added to printed Cairns labels indicated that the specimen was from Nelson, now known as Gordonvale).

This species is known from numerous localities in the Cape York Peninsula and wet tropics regions of North Queensland.

Diagnosis
This species can be differentiated from B. annulatus Webb by the pair of brown triangular marks on the pronotum. (Webb 1983).
