Genus Bunduica Jacobi, 1909

Compiler and date details

27.7.2010 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

Tthe type species, from southwestern Western Australia, is the only described species but a second species, from SE Queensland, is known in collections.

Lambkin (1978) redescribed the genus and confirmed Fennah's (1950) placement in the tribe Achilini. The type species is relatively squat and small for the tribe (~6-8mm).

Diagnosis

The convex frons lacking median longitudinal carina provides the most distinguishing characters of the genus. In addition, the vertex is slightly convex and almost as wide as long. The pronotum is wide and is not constricted behind the eyes as in other genera (e.g., Aneipo). The type species has some red venation in the dark brown tegmina.

"The genus is most clearly distinguished by the shallow vertex, the tumid, ecarinate frons and the distinct form of the basal region of the aedeagus (recurved ventrally for a considerable distance. Phallobase with all lobes proximally distant)." (Lambkin 1978)
