Introduction

Briansmithia jackstirlingi is distinguished from B. clarkensis by the combination of larger size and teleoconch sculpture of stronger radial ribs with prominent spiral grooves. Populations differ in the extent of spire protrusion.

Ecological Descriptors

Litter-dwelling, rainforest, under logs.

 

Diagnosis

Shell large to very large, reddish-brown with a green tinge, globose to subglobose with dome-shaped spire; protoconch almost smooth apart from a few oblique striations at the end, teleoconch with very prominent radial ribs above intersected by discontinuous spiral grooves, smooth and shiny below; umbilicus deep, V-shaped; diameter 29.5mm.
