Introduction
Briansmithia differs from Strangesta by having a relatively larger almost smooth protoconch. It differs from Scagacola by having bolder radial ribs on the teleoconch, a larger protoconch and a larger, more globose shell.

Diagnosis
Shell medium-sized to large, subglobose to globose with a low-domed spire, last whorl flared; protoconch relatively large, mostly smooth with a series of oblique incised striations at the end, upper adult whorl surface sculptured with bold radial ribs of varying intensity, with varying degrees of spiral striae or grooves, underside of whorls smooth; umbilicus narrow, V-shaped. Shell colour deep reddish-brown above, yellow below (rarely all-yellow).
